From the creators of Signs and Sixth Sense with actors Mark Wahlberg and John Leguizamo. These names graced the set with their star past performances, but the movie was another complete failure like Signs which tries to bank off the success of Sixth Sense. I was gripped during the entire length of The Happening, waiting to find the truth behind these mysterious death causing incidents, plaguing the entire North East side of America. Post 9/11 brought a swarm of them to the movie theaters in recent years. However, this one film played out like a cheap stunt in comparison to the rest of movies like I am Legend, Resident Evil, Children of Men and even Cloverfield which was filmed through the perspective of a cheap movie camera. The idea behind this new type, apocalyptic killer manages to stop all bodily functions, including movement and speech til one can find a suicidal ending. A bit far fetched, trying to oppose a scientific explanation which was more like an unthought out idea.
I’m a big fan of apocalyptic movies and they keep getting better. I liked the innovative style used for this new addition to the genre of apocalyptic movies. The box offices warned people about possibility of seizures, especially those with weak heart conditions when watching this movie. People from the audience were dizzy and reports of people throwing up after watching this movie. That’s probably enough to get you see this movie. I know plenty more working and residential Manhattanites like could relate to the event having also experience 9/11 first hand.

When it comes to apocalyptic movies, I am a big fan of them. They get better and better as this one takes us right into the heart of New York City. One of the hardest places to film. Especially something as a big production as filming an empty Manhattan plaque by a virus that turns everyone into blood thirsty zombies. That’s what makes this film so much more exciting to see. A few movies have taken the shot at the apocalypse of New York. Movies such as A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Cloverfield, Godzilla(1998), Escape from New York, The Day After Tomorrow and King Kong. Capturing the movies in New York is one of the hardest and expensive things to do so why bother?
Because everyone loves movies in New York City and apocalyptic movies in any big city is a hard feat to accomplish. There is a new connection, we as movie goers get from watching New York being destroyed, post 9/11. Perhaps a sense of alleviated pain by seeing how things could be worse? Or is it something else?
Ok, so what is going on with these brits with their their latest apocalyptic movies coming out lately? Well, I’ll tell you that they’re doing a pretty good job in my opinion. America is coming out with their versions, but new on the market are these new titles that keep popping out from that country. To name them, Children of Men, 28 days later, 28 weeks later and now Doomsday
Doomsday kinda reminds me Resident Evil, 28 Days Later and Mad Max all rolled up into one. Throw in some military vehicles, a trip to a medieval era, a government cover up, a product placement car from Bentley like the BMW from James Bond and what you’ve got yourself is the recipe for Doomsday. It was a very fun movie. Lots of different action, exciting and gripping scenes for everyone.
