Some type of nerd out there suggests putting the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz into a list of robots. I’m like, are you freakin’ serious?! The Tin Man wasn’t a robot, he was a walking pile of farm equipment! Else how do you explain the scarecrow and a talking lion?\

Other people go the distance and start making movie robot lists and add Kitt from Knight Rider, meanwhile Knight Rider was a TV series. Hello, the theme is movies!!! Another sad part in these lists, R2D2 takes all the fame and glory for robots in Star Wars forgetting about C3PO.

Anyhows, this list takes a numerical order, appropriately by year which shows the development of robots in cinema and illustrates the human evolution of dealing and living with robots.

  1. Transformers (2007)
  2. I, Robot (2004)
  3. A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
  4. Robocop (1987)
  5. Short Circuit (1986)
  6. Terminator (1984)
  7. Blade Runner (1982)
  8. Star Wars (1977)
  9. The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
10th… goes to all the 3d animated robots. They were drawn in a cartoony type world, unrealistic. Transformers and Terminator 2 which could also be considered animation in many cases, but run side by side with true film.
  1. Wall-E
  2. Robots

Wall – E is a fantastic movie to see in the theaters. As always, Pixar delivers another wonderful movie, upon their expectations. 700 years into the future, people have left space aboard the spaceship, Axiom where people have no need for work and never leave their seats for anything. Sitting next to 500 other people engaged in the same situation was just hilarious.

Online sci-fi aficionados find a familiar resemblance to the old school movie Short Circuit, although Wall-E is definitely his own character that people constantly fell in love with, throughout the movie. I believe it was their embracing of technology, that connected them to this movie, on screen. Steve Jobs might find Wall-E has an interesting operating system installed.

The movie has a great and wonderful message in comparison to today’s environmental and health concerns. I hope a movie like this will make others think about the reality of our situation here on Earth.

After experiencing this movie on the big screen, I wish I could watch it again. I’ll definitely be watching out for its DVD when it comes out. It’s already a cherished animated classic like Toy Story and Cars in my book.

Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man. Marvel is finally cashing in on their character exploits. Like Transformers, we are watching our heros come to life and Iron Man has been sitting in the back burner for sometime. Why? Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hulk have had their place. But Iron Man is a new character joining the movie star ranks from their comic book benchwarmers. If they had tried making this movie any sooner, they would have failed making the character as realistic as they did here. It’s a technical marvel in 3D movie making.

It was an Indiana Jones vs Iron Man debate. I love Indiana Jones but Iron Man got rave reviews and thus worth the trip to see it in theaters. Honestly, do not waste your time watching a garbage copy of this. It’s something to see in the theatre, with great seats, popcorn, soda, a booming sound system and air condition because its summertime! If you can wait for a Iron Man on DVD, then do so because you don’t want to ruin your first watch on this one because of the superb graphics and quality of animation.

Finally, the millennium has come where we can finally see all our childhood heros make it to the big screen. Thanks to wonderful world of CG 3D animation. When I was a kid, we used to dream of a Transformers movie. The animated version was good for its time, but importantly it followed the same style as its animated series. Somewhere along the way, Cartoon Network aired a 3D animated series of the transformers. Whoa! This sucked! I was so disappointed with the way they presented the show. The cheesy 3D was the worst. It never caught my attention like this new movie certainly did, and not because of Megan Fox.

I was disappointed that they lost some of the original transforming sounds the robots would make when they transformed into their vehicle forms. The simplicity of how the robots were presented in the past were also lost. The lost in simplicity lost them the coolest part in which the toys were able to transform just like the cartoons. It was a puzzle, trying to figure out how to transform the toys, but when you finally figured it out, it was wonderful. Compared to the transformers today, these current transformers cannot make the same type of transforming impact in the toy stores. Some of the transformers were created with so many razor sharp pieces that you couldn’t sell them in the toy stores without a kid cutting themselves on one. But they did create realistic toy models that are not tranform-able. But it’s no problem for a possible video game, whose market has taken over the dying toy market. The question is, who will be able to take it to the market? Can they replicate the movie and create an awesome realistic Transformer video game? One that can offer movie like quality and great game play? Anyway, Michael Bay did a great job directing Transformers and they are working on the second one already titled Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. If you haven’t seen Transformers yet, you should.
